The Practice Portrait

This painting is done as a practice piece so that I can work out the color zones of the painting. If you remember the first stage was the drawing now the practice painting. Now I examine what I would do different. Maybe a little more tilt to the head? Maybe a different color in the shading? Trying to be true to the personality of the person you are painting. May you enjoy helping me decide what needs to be done and may you find your easel friendly. I would appreciate any comments you have to help the painting progress.

Hi Pat
I enjoy all your paintings very much. I LOVE your still lifes!!
This is a beautiful portrait, the only thing I would change would be the background color maybe by adding some green to cool it and gray it a little.

Honestly, my first response is that I want to see this beautiful woman's face, especially her eyes which always tell so much about personality. The fallen hair is right over her eye - which kind of blocks my entrance to her face and frustrates me. The painting is very expressive, though. Just a thought....

Practice?! Looks great, I'd call it a finished product! Am eager to see what/how you change it...she appears to be so mysterious.

The hair in the face makes me brush the side of my face to get the hair out of the way. Other than that the painting is working for me!
